Explosions in the Xingang port due to the rupture of two oil pipelines spilled large amounts of oil into the Yellow Sea, creating an quickly expanding oil slick. Although no assessment has been carried out on the envirmental impact of the disaster, it is suspected to have caused extensive damage to local wildlife and aquaculture.
