Open pit mine, Siberia, Russia, 1957-2011

The Mir Mine is a former open pit diamond mine, located in, Russia. The mine is the second largest excavated hole in the world and the fourth deepest. Under the pit lies a network of tunnels, later used for further diamond mining until it’s closure in 2011. There are no plans for any reclamation.
