B is for Bikini, in a nuclear breeze

Nuclear Testing, Bikini Atoll, Pacific Ocean, 1946-1958

Bikini Atoll was part of the Pacific Proving Grounds and site of more than 20 nuclear weapons tests by the United States between 1946 and 1958. The fallout of the largest test, Castle Bravo, reached inhabited islands many miles away. Even today, local produce is unsafe for consumption due to radiation poisoning.
