Oil spill (pipeline), Alaska, United States, 2006

Neglected maintenance of oil pipelines caused a leak near the Prudhoe Bay oil field to flow undisturbed for days. As the largest oil spill in the region to date, wildlife was mostly unaffected due to the winter contditions but a large scale cleanup was still required. The spill raised concerns about planned oil wells in nearby wildlife refuges.
